The Songwa partnership (La Marzocco, Mahlkonig & Probat), in addition to bringing staff and members of the coffee industry to origin for educational purposes, aims to provide support to the immediate community of the Songwa Coffee Estate, located in the Great Rift Valley in southwest Tanzania. This year, the partnership is proud to announce its new project to demolish and rebuild a school building at the Muvwa Primary School in the vicinity of the plantation. 327 children attend the Muvwa Primary School, who are currently divided into 7 classrooms with 7 teachers. We are seeking candidates who are interested in an exciting and once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to coordinate and manage the project this summer. Internship scope
– Key objective is the implementation of a sustainability project, in this case the construction of a simple village school building, which includes:
· Visit previous school building projects to acquaint with the building type
· Purchase of materials based on construction plans and previous project records
· Guiding/supervising the construction team on daily basis
· Transporting materials to the construction site on time
· Liaising with the village authorities
· Liaising with the Utengule/Songwa farm management
· Ensure project time line is followed
· Keeping records of all purchases, salaries and other costs in Excel format
· Trouble shooting when and if necessary
· Produce a brief monthly progress report with pictures
· Produce a final project report
– Next to the key objective the candidate will also be involved in the farm operation on a daily basis, such as accompanying coffee cherry transports from Songwa to Utengule, town purchases etc.
– Duration of internship is 3 – 3.5 months from May/June – Aug/Sept, 2015
– Accommodation, F&B is at the farm
– Small remuneration of USD 800/month as part of project expenses
Candidate requirements
– Minimum age is 20 years, ideal 22 – 28 years old
– Good basic technical understanding capacity
– Good oral and written English knowledge
– Valid driving license for cars. Able to drive a small motor bike
– Committed, hard-working attitude, team player
– Respect to local culture
– Good health
– Ready to stay in rural, tropical area
