- What do you want to do when you grow up?
“What do you want to do when you grow up?” is the question everyone asks me, teachers, friends, relatives and parents, and I have only ever given one response, ‘A surgeon!’.
“But what do you like about cutting people up?” I always find myself giving the same answer, as if this profession could be compared to that of a butcher. “Well, I would like to inform you that surgeons do not ‘cut’, they ‘open’; surgeons do not ‘tear off’, they ‘amputate’. Perhaps this is the real attraction of the profession, saving people about who you know nothing, only because you know you are doing the right thing without consideration of race, sex or religion; yes, this is the characteristic which intrigues me most about being a surgeon.
- The dream you would like to see come true?
My dream is to travel the world with the person who is dearest to me whether it be a boy, a friend, a brother or sister, or by myself. I would like to be able to discover the “real life” of several countries, not what is shown on TV, but to understand their habits, learn their language, their customs and way of life.
- The trip you would like to take?
In truth, more than a specific place, I would like to visit the Far East, but if I really had to choose one country, I would say Japan. Perhaps, because a few friends who have been there have spoken highly of it, because of how much emphasis my geography teacher gave it when she explained this country, the traditions which are so different to ours, and the fact that Japan really fascinates me as a tourist destination and is among the possible regions for my high school trip.
- The gift you would like to give a friend?
As a gift for a friend, I would definitely give a book, seeing that everyone knows my passion for literature and the effort I spend trying to encourage people close to me to read, because you know, reading is like travelling while sitting comfortably on the sofa.

- Cosa vuoi fare da grande?
“Cosa vuoi fare da grande? È la domanda che tutti mi pongono, professori, amici, parenti e genitori ed io ho sempre e solo dato un’unica risposta “Il Chirurgo” !
“Ma cosa ci trovi di bello nello squartare la gente?” mi sento sempre ribattere, come se questo mestiere potesse essere associato a un macellaio. Beh, vi informo che il chirurgo non “squarta”, ma “apre”; il chirurgo non “strappa”, ma “amputa”; il chirurgo non è un serial-killer psicopatico che per noia uccide le persone, ma è un eroe incognito che le salve. Forse è proprio questa la bellezza della professione, salvare persone di cui non conosci niente, ma solo perché sai che stai facendo la cosa giusta senza diversità di razza, sesso o religione; sì questa è la caratteristica che mi affascina di più dell’essere chirurgo.
- Il sogno che vorresti realizzare?
Il sogno che vorrei realizzare è quello di poter viaggiare per il mondo con la persona a me più cara che sia un ragazzo, un’amica, un fratello o me stessa. Vorrei poter scoprire la “vera vita” di alcuni paesi e non quella che viene mostrata in TV, capire le loro abitudini, imparare la loro lingua, conoscere i loro costumi e le loro usanze.
- Il viaggio che vorresti fare?
In verità, più che una meta precisa, mi piacerebbe visitare tutto l’Oriente, ma se proprio devo scegliere un paese dire il Giappone. Sarà perché alcuni amici che ci sono stati me ne hanno parlato bene, sarà per la tanta enfasi che ci metteva la mia professoressa di geografia nello spiegare questo paese, sarà per le tradizioni così lontane dalle nostre, fatto sta che il Giappone mi affascina molto come meta turistica ed è tra i possibili territori per il mio viaggio di maturità.
- Il regalo che vorresti fare a un amico?
Come regalo ad un amico farei di sicuro un libro visto che tutti conoscono la mia passione per la lettura e la forza di volontà con cui tento di spronare le persone vicino a me a leggere, perché si sa, leggere è come fare un viaggio stando comodamente seduti sul divano.
