On February Wednesday 22nd 2017, during the week of Catex and the Irish Barista Championship, La Marzocco UK started off the 2017 circuit of ‘La Marzocco Local’ in Dublin.
At Catex, The No.1 Event in the Irish Food & Beverage Sector, La Marzocco were the official machine sponsors for the Irish Barista Championships. The two day competition saw Niall Wynn, from Dublin’s own Proper Order Coffee Co, win the title of Irish Barista Champion.
To make the most of the Barista Championship and the buzz around Catex, La Marzocco couldn’t think of a better place to host the first La Marzocco Local.
At Paddy Cullen’s pub, there were over 100 guests throughout the evening who came by for an evening of coffee, conversation, food, drink and entertainment. The perfect way to continue to engage and support the booming Irish speciality scene.
Our own Enrico Wurm, fresh from head judge duties at the championships, kicked off the event with a talk titled ‘Know Your Water’; very appropriate during a week that saw two coffee competitions (the Irish Barista Championship was followed by the Irish Cup Tasters Championship). Following this, there was the Latte Art Throwdown with over 20 competitors fighting to win a VIP trip to London Coffee Festival. There was even a customised ‘La Marzocco 90’ latte art dice directing the knock out rounds. We were honored to have 2015 Irish Latte Art Champion, Dave Regan of Granthams play judge during the night too. A big thanks to Dave, Espresso Solutions, Caffeine Magazine, Paddy Cullen’s, Latte Art Dice and all the guests and competitors!
La Marzocco has always strived “to build relationships so that we enrich the lives of others” and with La Marzocco Local, we shall continue to do that. We look forward to taking the event on the road this year with planned stops in Glasgow, Birmingham, Leeds, Bristol and London.
