Espresso Martini is maybe one of the most renowned and most loved cocktails from the 90’s.
The story goes, the popular drink once was called “Espresso Vodka”, born at the Soho brasserie in London (1983) by Dick Bradsell for a client who asked for a drink to “wake her up, and fuck her up”.
The recipe originally included Vodka, sugar syrup and two types of coffee liqueur (Kalhua and Tia Maria) and a freshly made espresso. In the 90’s while people kept on drinking Vodka, every cocktail that was served in a V-shaped glass and was Vodka-based was considered a “Martini”.
Dick refined and perfected his Espresso Vodka to eventually give it the name we know it as today: “Espresso Martini”
