We think of a coffee shop as a place to warmly congregate and commune over a fresh brew and sweet bite to eat, though Humphreys Street Coffee takes the act of community to a whole new level by providing a social enterprise to the young local community of Nashville, Tennessee USA. This act of altruism is demonstrated with career, training, and mentoring opportunities, business, and social life courses, scholarships to future colleges or trade schools. Ultimately the mission at Humphreys Street is to employ and empower youth, develop leaders and provide pathways out of poverty.
Humphreys Street is comprised of a coffee shop, roastery, and soap-making kitchen. The coffee shop serves a great selection of coffee and teas in a warm location with a spark of southern charm and includes a custom matte white Strada AV. In their other space, they roast a vast variety of coffees and commit themselves to another craft: soap making.
“When a local teen applies for and receives a job at Humphreys Street, they are trained in a highly skilled craft and are given the opportunity to earn money in a neighborhood where few positive economic opportunities exist. Humphreys Street employees also have the opportunity to tour colleges, learn about trade school options, and spend time with mentors who share about their education, career, and other life experiences.
